La Vida Me Mata is a smart, dryly funny film whose roots in tragedy do not prevent Silva from indulging in some truly brilliant sight gags and bursts of the fantastic. It is a remarkably assured debut picture particularly when you consider just how far removed it is from the bulk of Chile's film output.
